hi, i am submitting my application to the magnet schools tonight or tomorrow and wondering if anyone has any feedback on these magnet schools. I looked at past posts, but they are so out of date. Thanks!

Just an FYI--Wiley is overcrowded and is accepting fewer than 5 new students this year. Staff had suggested no new applicants be accepted (except Kindergarten siblings), but a board member asked that they just reduce the number instead of accepting zero. Well, last year they only accepted 5 non-sibling Kindergarteners so this year they will accept 1-4 applicants. Not great odds.

I've heard really great things about all 3 of those magnets.

I heard the same thing. I would definitely not waste my one out of 3 choices on it if you're trying to get into the magnet program (versus hoping for a specific school).
We also have a friend and a neighbor at Conn and they love it.

if my first choice is wiley and my son doesn't get in does that hurt my chance of not getting my second choice? We wanted to get into wiley as we really want him to learn a foriegn language from a young age.

I have heard about the overcrowding, but didn't know it was that bad.

Thanks!

I don't think it necessarily hurts your chances of getting into your second choice, but if you already know the chances are nil of getting into one out of three, you've lowered the odds of getting the magnet program at all by a third. Most of the magnets have foreign language. I would personally look into others.
