I travel 1 hour 15 minutes one-way to see Dr Robert Taylor at Triangle ENT in Durham near Durham Regional Hospital. I take my kids there, as well! He's great with my kids and he has the best staff anywhere! I've barely seen his waiting room; usually, we're taken right to an exam room and Dr Taylor is usually there within minutes. He's very knowledgeable of sleep disorders and looks at all of the options to best suit your needs. As added bonus, you don't have to hike a mile to get to his office from the parking lot. You can park your car at his front door or very close by. Address: Ste 140, 4210 North Roxboro St, Durham 620-7800
Hubby snores worse than I've ever heard anyone else. Of course, I don't sleep with anyone else so he is the only one I hear!!! Aside from smothering him with a pillow, I started using ear plugs. They work. Don't mean to hijack your thread but wanted you to know that there is an alternative to surgery. However, if you or someone you know, gets that surgery, I'd love to hear how it went!
My son who is 6 year old snores quite a bit. He is not overweight. His weight is in the middle range of normal weight range. We talked to our pediatrician and he prescribed nasal allergy spray. When we use it the snoring goes away. The Doctor thinks it could be due to the allergies. He asked us to consult an allergy specialist couple of weeks ago if the snoring persists. We are waiting and watching.
My husband's snoring was found to be a combination of a deviated septum, several sinus issues, plus allergies. Everything formed a perfect storm that caused him to have frequent sinus infections and to snore very badly.
A few years ago he had surgery to correct the septum and parts of his sinuses and this reduced his snoring substantially. The only thing they did to his throat was reduce the size of his uvula. He has gone back to a different ENT since he started to have problems again and found that the first surgery did not reduce the size of the turbinates (part of sinus) enough, and he will have to have surgery again.
That said, the sinus surgery seemed to work very well as far as helping with the snoring, as well as the sinus infections and drainage he was suffering at night.
I'm not sure who his new doctor is, but I can find out. He seems to be happy with this doctor, but had some issues with the previous one.
