I'm new to Raleigh and wasn't really sure about this. Is there a big St Patty's Day celebration after the parade tomorrow? Will everyone be dressed in green and drinking at the bars? Or does this happen the following weekend? I didn't want to look like a fool dressed in green and going out to the bars with my friends. I know its a family event during the day but I was hoping it would be more fun during hte afternoon/evening hours in downtown Raleigh. Can anyone give me some insight if they have been downtown Raleigh after the parade?

Also, I know that the bars are not allowed to serve green beer. But is there a specific website to show the St Patty's Day after parade drink specials? Thanks in advance!

You might want to get in the car and head to Charlotte or Savannah if you expect a big St. Patty's party.

I don't know about the parade area (Moore Square) but Glenwood South usually has a lot going on. Part of the street by Napper Tandy's typically gets blocked off and they will have a band outside that draws a pretty good crowd, at least last year they did. I don't think you'll find much in the way of drink specials, though.

So, I guess you didn't bother to look at the link I posted in your other thread about the parade. There is usually a reason that people go through the trouble to post information for others who are seeking it. Please feel free to take the time to read the info, and then you may not have to post yet another thread on the same topic. If you had gone to the link, you would see that there is a festival held right after the parade at the end of the parade route (Moore Square). But really, all of downtown is celebrating and fun isn't confined to Moore Square.

It is only a "family event" if you so choose it to be. It's one of those "choose your own adventure" type of things where you get to decide how much fun (or beer) you have, or don't have - no one's going to hold your hand and force you to have a good time. The bars will be open (as they are every day of the week) and they will be serving parade revelers all day. They may have some all-day specials, but remember that in NC there is no "happy hour", just all-day specials or nothin'.

I've lived downtown for the past 4.5 years and have attended the parade all of those years with a group of friends. It is fun. We drink good Irish beer (not food-colored Bud Light). We wear green. We bar hop. We enjoy the bagpipes and Irish dancers. There are lots of other people doing the same thing. We will be out there tomorrow, so look out!

Also, this is not the end of St. Paddy's Day in Raleigh. People still celebrate on March 17 as well, but it is not an organized event. And, yes, you can wear green that day as well!

Do you think its possible that the OP did NOT see the thread on the parade??

Thanks I did see the link. But all it really told me was that there was a parade going on and it was a family event. It didn't say anythign about the alcohol or the festivities afterwards. Thats why I started a new thread with those questions.

Thanks for the info tho... its appreciated.

Considering that he started the other thread, I think it's a safe bet that he saw it.

We're thinking about heading down to the parade tomorrow for the first time since we moved here a couple of years ago. Will have a toddler and in-laws in tow, so no big drinking binges, but still looking forward to a good time.

Neat! I'm heading to Big Boss brewery with a few people, wearing my St Patrick's Day Big Boss shirt from last year. Maybe I'll head DT after that if there's a parade... I'm Irish and I like beer (and green). What a fun holiday!
