But it evens out since they save $1000/yr on property taxes and as everyone knows that's the most important thing in the universe.

Are you referring to the new section (just opened up in the last few months) that goes from RTP down to Apex/Holly Springs? It doesn't go anywhere? It only connects some of the fastest growing cities in the area with the largest concentration of companies in the area

Yes, but assuming the Red Route is no longer necessary, the route would return to the original protected corridor which I believe is the Orange Route. You could extend it to Bells Lake Rd but then you have the problem of a major highway dumping into an area with roads not designed to handle a lot of traffic.

Extending to 401 would give highway access to so many more residents in southern Cary, Holly Springs and Fuquay. I'm not sure there is even much need to extend it any further. Maybe some in Garner and Clayton would benefit from a further extension but it seems that these areas are already well served with highways.

Y'all just wait until Spring 2013 when they completely demolish and rebuild I-40 from US1 to US64. For three years only two lanes of traffic will be sandwiched between two concrete divider walls. The new toll road will be packed.

If my morning math is correct, that's 100 less on the mortgage, 200 more in gas, 100 in tolls, and around 82 bucks a month in property taxes.

Hmmm. A 116-dollar loss.

And... Still a longer commute.

Honestly, though. Most people save more than 100 on a mortgage, I'd think. But, there is vehicle wear and tear to consider plus extra driving time to malls, entertainment venues, museums, etc that one might incur.

Nope. Still not worth moving that far out. To me, anyway.
