I am new to the area and work in RTP. I am supposed to put together a lunch for my office (about 40 people). Any suggestions of good places that cater or deliver lunch for this many people?

My company runs a training business and does this all the time. I am not involved with it, but I know of a few:

Jason's Deli is great, and can do sandwich platters with sides and everything, or they can do "per order"

Jimmy Johns
Williams Restaurant (good)
Randy's or Sal's for pizza, salads and etc.

There is a place called Sugar Magnolia that does really good lunches

And we have a few places that do REALLY good hot lunches, with extensive menus. If I think of it, I'll ask the lady that coordinates it and get some names. (But there are several good caterers in the area)

Get your order in, well in advance (at least a day, maybe a few) for a group of 40.

vmeals.com is an awesome service. Enter your zip code, date and time and you'll be presented a list of restaurants to choose from. You can choose to invite people individually but I found that was a pain so I would just pick a place and the number/type of meals. VMeals calls the vendor to confirm on the day of the delivery. It couldn't be easier.

The taco bar from Salsarita's was always a hit but I'm not sure if they offer that through Vmeals anymore.

Just remember to order a few vegetarian options.

Try Meridian Cafe at Meridian Parkway near I40/55 exit. Our admin uses them at work all the time. Great food......and desserts too.

When we get lunch catered for our office, we always beg for some Backyard BBQ Pit on 55.
