My wife has been to many different endocrinologist over the past 5 years in the triangle areas, and has had no luck with any of them.
Our problem with Raleigh Endocrine is the office staff really sucks, and it's impossible to get a script written. They say that we have to come in before we can get a script, but then tell us that the next available appointment is 5 months from now.
We Had the same problem with Dr. Gamblin on Creedmore. He actually took 3 months to sign a paper for my wife to get a new insulin pump, even with the pump people sending a rep to his office multiple times a week.
We have had problems with others, but I don't remember the names. The basic gist is, I don't want to have to call everyday for a month to get a script. If I have an emergency, I would prefer speaking with a specialist, instead of completely relying on the E.R.
I want the office staff to pass on messages to the doctor, and the doctor to have a general concern with my wife's health and mentality. My wife gets enough crap from me all the time about taking care of herself. I don't want a doctor to just give the lab facts and say "You need to take care of yourself better" then proceed to explain the same exact thing that we already know, and it doesn't work. My wife does very well with takeing care of herself, but sometimes doing what the endocrinologist says doesn't work. I would not like for the endocrinologist to assume that my wife is not doing what they say.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME FIND A GOOD ENDOCRINOLOGIST FOR MY WIFE. ANYWHERE IN THE TRIANGLE AREA.

Unfortunately, there is a shortage of them in the triangle. And, not matter what practice, they are having to be more careful about writing prescriptions w/o an office visit due to doc shoppers and other issues. Try UNC, I heard from a friend their wait for an appt was the best in the triangle in her experience. Her family has medical issues and has used endos often.
I see endo at UNC's Highgate office in Durham but she is leaving this month. I also have insulin pump issues and need somebody responsive as well. I have appt with attending there in a few weeks but I don't even know his name.
It doesn't make sense that diabetes is epidemic proportions but so few endo docs around. And it's not like there is a underground market for insulin is there? Can't her primary help you out until you get to see endo?
Diabetes is hard enough to deal with without having poor or no communication with a doctor.
Good luck.

There aren't many docs drawn to the field, it's not sexy enough, not hi paying enough for many docs, and it's not a money maker like cardiac care or similar, due to the lack of procedures.
I've been seeing Dr. Rizvi of Triangle Endocrinology and Diabetes Clinic.
You don't have to wait months for an appointment. I believe I only waited 3 weeks and that was mainly due to my schedule, not theirs.
It is a very small office. One doctor, one nurse/receptionist and not very high tech at all but he seems to know his medicine. The office is VERY basic and makes you wonder if it's a reflection on the care you will receive but that is not the case at all. I see him for thyroid issues but he's very thorough, looking at labs and numbers that other doctors I've had completely ignored!
I go every 6 weeks for now (have been since September) and have never had a problem getting an appointment that fits my schedule.
He does have an office in Fayetteville as well which I think may be his main office? They usually call me from that office with regard to my prescriptions and to confirm appointments.
He takes his time with each patient, and because of that he sometimes runs behind schedule but I've never waited more than 30 minutes. I don't mind this at all because I know he will not be rushing through my appointment.
I don't have a specific name but do have a lot of health problems where I travel to many hospitals for treatment etc. I have been treated the way you describe. Anyhow a suggestion I have is to call up a major teaching hospital in the area there endo dept and see if they could suggest one. These hospitals are more up to date with current treatments and research. I found one of my best pain doctors by doing that and he was even better then when I traveled to Cleveland Clinic or UCLA. I did not see a student of course but it was the medical director. I was never sure about that issue since teaching hospital makes me think that. I hope your wife gets the care and treatment she deserves.
I've been going to Carolina Endocrine in Raleigh for the past couple years.... They are fantastic there.
I've seen other endocrinologists in the triangle and their service is not on par, in comparision to Carolina Endocrine. The staff is very nice, personable, and friendly. The doctors really go above and beyond as well. I've always felt like a person when I go there --and not just some other patient that they are looking to get out the door.
I can't agree more. I just had my first appointment with Dr. Rizvi n Apex and I was worried because it is not fancy like most doctor's offices nor is the staff exceptional by any means. Dr. Rizvi himself though, appears a bit disshelved, but he is actually very intent on getting to the problem. I was pleasantly surprised. I am looking forward to working with him in regards to my Hashimoto's Thyroid issues and getting to a point of more optimal health. I will post again in two weeks after I have my next appointment.
But so far this doctor pays attention, in the last year no one has even felt my thyroid, but Dr. Rizvi felt it right away and knew that I needed an ultrasound because one side is enlarged. After I left is office, I felt it too. I don't generally feel my thyroid, I guess I should but I am glad he took the time to feel my thyroid.
