Paving wouldn't be very environmentally friendly. You will be making all of your land that perks water into a big source of runoff. Plus, many areas (HOA or not) that are newer have strict stormwater requirements regarding the amount of impervious surface space they're allowed on their land.

Winston's restaurant on Falls of Neuse has Bermuda grass or some similar warm weather grass that is painted green in the winter. Is that an option for your HOA?

I always advise people that rather than sitting back and saying, "Jeez, HOAs are so stupid and evil", they actually get involved. Once you realize your HOA is YOU and your neighbors, you'll realize you all can run it how you want, change the rules and ARC guidelines how you want, etc. You can even disband the whole thing. You just have to get enough of your neighbors to agree with you. When people say they hate their HOA, they often mean, "I don't want to do any work to make my HOA suit me better" or "I have ideas that only a small percentage of my neighbors agree with or will sign off on".

No, we wouldn't actually pave our yard. No Kudzu was "suggesting" a funny (but not an actual possible) alternative.

Our HOA is fine with painting the lawn, so long as it "resembles healthy grass." We checked.

Thanks for the tip about Winston's I drive past there a few times a month. I think I will give them a call during the week to see who they use.

More than likely, we will be back to regular watering and high water bills.
