Simple question. Wanting to convert 4500 SF of dead fescue with common bermuda thoughout to either Bermuda or Zoysia.
Any experience with local companies?
My boss saunters around behind the Prestonwood maintenance shack and picks up some chunks of Bermuda and sets them in his lawn. In 2 years, your 15 minutes of effort and zero cash outlay will no doubt yield you a banner crop of your own!
Our fescue sodded lawn from 2006 sprouted Bermuda later (2007) and it never looked back. Last season was 90%, now I see near-complete coverage. It's a purdy-lookin' weed, fer sure.
I have had a real bermuda lawn before and can't stand the weedy nature of the common. It's in all of the beds in a completely different way than bermuda sod. It would probably cover my entire house if i let it!
we bought emerald zoysia from Super Sod last year and it is thriving, but I don't think they install. 4500 sq. ft. is a LOT to do yourself. I have seen many of the local installation companies deliver super sod though and then they show up to lay it. Super Sod is @ the farmer's market if you want to check them out- they have a website too. Good luck

I have NO intention of laying the sod myself, and have visited super sod already. I was wondering if anyone had used an installer with good results, especially in terms of yard prep before the sod was installed.
Im planting a seeded Bermuda this year but worry about common overtaking it. From my understanding Zoysia should out compete common Bermuda. If you don't care about overseeing in the winter go with Zoysia.

I would probably lay the sod. Just so I could regret it immediately.
You are right. Yard prep, like prepping to paint, makes the job, I think. The sod will grow on a bumpy yard, or over holes, etc.
I want it smoooooth....
Isn't it a little early? I thought you had to wait until after the last frost (~April 15).
