I just heard that there is a nuclear plant located just around 20-30 miles away from Raleigh. It is the most unsafe nuclear plant in U.S.

After the Japanese nuclear disaster, I am really concerned about this plant that is located so close to the residential area...

What can we do???

Here is an article about the nuclear plant:

Nuclear Waste Pools in North Carolina

"One of the most lethal patches of ground in North America is located in the backwoods of North Carolina, where Shearon Harris nuclear plant is housed and owned by Progress Energy. The plant contains the largest radioactive waste storage pools in the country. "

Did you move here NOT knowing that Shearon
Harris is down the street???

I grew up here. Imagine all the freaking out the people who hate nuclear power were doing back then.

I do agree that they need to tighten up safety. Otherwise? I'm completely unconcerned.

I wish they build another one. It'd be better than some tacky housing development built on scrap land with 13 nasty drainage ponds just so we have enough houses crammed in to serve the relos from all over the US.

No, I was not aware of that before moving over here....

"putting more than two hundred million residents of this rapidly growing section of North Carolina in extreme peril..."

wait, how many?
(the entire US population is a bit over 300m, and 2/3s of them are here in central NC? i knew it was a popular destination, but dang!)

i am not saying SH should be held up as a good example, but with such a glaring exaggeration am i really supposed to believe the rest of their fear-mongering stats?
(oh, wait...i see that 'hundred' is crossed out [but not deleted?] in the 'full article' link. still smells funny...)

Really? Do you live in Cary, Apex, or Holly Springs?

You can see the plume from the reactor most clear days.

Shearon Harris was there WAYYYYYYYYYYYY before most of the residential areas.

Reminds me of when Preston was brand new. Many homeowners complained about the noise from the airport (after they moved in)...claiming they didn't know they lived that close to the airport!!!

Yanno, we get some airport noise over here near Preston, but I kinda like it.

Course, we consider living near the airport to be a bonus.

I understand how people maybe didn't know much back in the day.

But, now? Google is your friend.
