Wow! This is wild! Here in Durham, I was thinking to myself that the predictions were overblown as usual. We just got a few scattered showers. I'm just finding out on this thread that it was indeed serious just a few miles away. I've tuned into WRAL now. Hope everyone is ok!
Anxiously waiting for the rest of the forum regulars to check in, and hoping that everyone was able to ride out the storm(s) without injury or [major] damage!
Here 15 miles north of downtown, we didn't even get much wind, but heavy rain for a brief while. A 2-foot-square chunk of someone's insulation foam fell out of the sky into our yard. I had shut down and unplugged the computer, but we didn't even lose power--spent the whole time watching the TV channels talking about the area in south Raleigh that was hit (which thankfully is mostly a more "industrial" area than heavy residential, though houses were damaged). My office less than a mile from there so it will be interesting to see what greets me on Monday!
Of those "regulars" that I know where they live, I'm not aware of any in that part of town, nor have I heard of any serious injuries. The roof of a convenience store blew right onto a parked car that had people in it, but those people are OK.
It's on TV now. It's not Brentwood subidivison -- it's on the other side of Capital. Stoneybrook Apartments are on TV, not mobile home park. There is a mobile home park way over there; don't know how they did.
Poor woman on TV who went through the ConAgra explosion lives in the apartments where the tornado hit. She is fine.
Everyone needs to keep away from powerlines.
Be careful, Raleighlass!
*bold by me
That is what I was referring to when I posted Brentwood area. He's off of, Woodard Road but I'm not 100 percent sure that name is correct. In any event it's off of Brentwood Rd, close to Habitat for Humanity, but yeah, other side of capital in the Brentwood Section/area.
It's worse then he first thought. Back porch ripped off, several trees down, and of course no electricity.
Holly Springs - lots of damage at Avent Ferry/55, Bass Lake Rd/Holly Springs Rd, Sunset Ridge subdivision, tree on top of Carolina School, mainly fallen trees and damaged roofs.
located near poole road & the beltline -- thankfully we are fine.
i know of two locations that i have seen pictures of damage with my own eyes:
(1) our friends who live over off of south saunders street in downtown have a huge tree that came down on their fence (thankfully not the house). they are located across south saunders from earps seafood which had their roof ripped off.
(2) all saints chapel in downtown (historic oakwood) has a hole in the roof & blown out windows.
hoping nobody is seriously injured in these storms. the damage is somewhat startling.
