Do not underestimate your girls' practical, more grown-up side!

Where do you live now? Sit down with them and list the pros and cons of where you are now and Cary. Maybe they will not have to share a room when you get to Cary, maybe their play room will be bigger, bigger yard, etc. Explain that Mom and Dad need to make this move so that they can raise a happy family. Taking them to all the places that everyone mentioned is key but don't forget to get them excited about the move by having some semi-adult conversations, the fun stuff wears thin after a few months Good luck!!

I thought about mentioning some of these, but with only 4 days I figured the poster may be too busy just getting to know the immediate area. But if that is not the case, here is my take on these:

1) The NC Zoo is wonderful, BUT - not so much in August. It gets hot on a nice spring day out there with all that asphalt. Can't imagine doing it in summer heat.

2) The Beach is probably the best bang for buck this time of year. Get up early and hit I-40 and you are sitting on the beach in less the 2.5 hours usually (parking woes once you get there sometimes). Been getting a lot of recommendations to skip Wrightsville Beach (very crowded and hard to find parking) and head to Kure Beach and down to the Ft Fisher area. Nice Aquarium down there, which the girls should enjoy.

3) The mountains - the way I drive, 4 hours gets me to some pretty serious mountains. I have driven from Airport Rd exit on I-40 to Blowing Rock in 2.5 before. You can get to Pilot Mtn in 2 hrs. Asheville in a 3.5 hrs. So, I can be standing on the Blue Ridge Parkway at Mt Pisgah in about 4 hours (which is exceptional). Blowing Rock/Boone area is nice for a quick visit and has Tweetsie Railroad and Grandfather Mountain nearby.

I was posting those as "this is what NC has to offer". After the move, a nice family vacation.

HIGHLY recommend #3, the mountains!!! ALOT OF FUN!!!
There is one place called "mystery hill" that is just way cool.
We stopped there on a whim and spent all day trying out everything.
