My husband and I are moving to Moore County in a few months. My husband will be stationed at Ft. Bragg. We have a 3 year old son who will start school while stationed there. My priority is to live in a town with a good school system. I've heard that Academy Heights in Pinehurst is good. I've also read that Sandhills Farmlife in Whispering Pines is good. What about Southern Pines public schools? Any information on the Episcopal Day School in Southern Pines or the Oneal School in Pinehurst? I'm hoping to live in a family friendly neighborhood. Don't want to be too far from shopping and Fort Bragg. I guess my biggest concern is schools and finding a neighborhood with lots of kids around. Help!! I'm torn. All three towns look wonderful. Thanks in advance.

Suggest you "re-post" on the NC forum. Lots of Moore County people there. On another note, Academy Heights school is closing. Yes, the top performing school (in the state, I believe) is being closed. Reason being given is a savings of $500k

That is terrible!! Yes, I am sure that it is as good as it is because of the amount spent on the school, but closing it before reducing funding?

I would like more information on these areas, too...

Thanks for the advice. I'm sorry to hear Academy Heights is closing. I've heard wonderful things about it. How about Pinehurst Elementary??

My "understanding" is that the Academy Heights year round program will be continued at both Pinehurst Elementary and West Pine elementary. Students/staff will be split between the two elementary schools, depending upon their home address.
I noticed that you have re-posted on the NC forum. You should receive more responses from there.
If I can be of any help, please let me know.
