With Oprah leaving, that leaves the 4 pm slot open.

Our local ABC affiliate is choosing to take that time to add MORE local news to the lineup.

So that means from 4 pm to 6:30 pm every weeknight on ABC, we'll see local news... 2.5 hours(!) of local news! Right now, I know they use the same news over and over and over, often from the day before that they've already aired in the morning.

Here's a story on the expanded news (scroll down on that page): Oprah - TVSpy

In most of the United States, the stations have decided to air Dr. Oz. I'm not a huge Dr. Oz fan (he's wrong on some things, and his show is sometimes lame), but I like the idea that he's at least getting people to think about improving their health.

What do you think? Do you think an expanded local newscast is a good idea?

Will you watch?

I couldn't care less what the stations put on the air - especially during the work day.

That's why God created the remote control. If you don't like what is on change the channel. Better yet, just turn the tv off and do something more productive with your life.

A long time from now (hopefully) when I lay on my death bed, I promise you I will not be heard uttering the words 1) I wish I spent more time at the office 2) I wish I spent more time in traffic 3) I wish I spent more time watching tv.

I haven't liked the station since they ousted Glenn Willey based on who's in the clique. I just don't care for the new guy. I still randomly watch the news, though. I'll flip between WTVD and WRAL. I'm trying but it's so hard to watch WRAL. They are so bad at what they do it amazes me people even watch that channel. I think I might start watching NBC. I hear their morning news is great.

I don't usually watch the entire news broadcast, if any--I prefer web coverage so I can skip over things I'm not interested in or avoid the things that will possibly make my head explode.

That said, I don't think there's a need for 2.5 hours of local news....especially if they're only repeating the same news.
I'd be more interested in a 4:00 broadcast of national or world news....

I don't know what they could put in that 4:00 slot...but I'd prefer it was NOT another Oprah-like show....or Oz, or Dr. Phil...no talk shows!

Yawn....

After almost 20 years of watching Oprah at 4pm (when my schedule allowed) I won't be likely to be motivated to turn the TV on for anything at that time. certainly not the news!

I think a majority of Oprah watchers would be happiest with....Oprah reruns.

I'm really surprised they're not turning it into The Steve Daniels Breaking News Hour.

I don't watch any TV that early, so it really doesn't matter to me. There are plenty of other choices it seems. TWC runs a 24-hour local news channel - is a couple of hours of local news on one or two other channels any worse?

If I had to vote, I'd say that just about anything is better than another talk-fest hosted by some self-absorbed celebrity who thinks that everyone fawns over their every thought.

If anything important happens I'll see it come across my Twitter feed before it even hits the TV news. So I'll say no thank you to extra local news.

I'm not home to watch tv at 4:00 pm, but my opinion is that ABC 11 news is already on 1.5 hours, which most of it is non-sense, so now they're on for 2.5 hours? Is this really necessary? What are they going to do with a 2.5 hour slot? I know, repeat the same 4 stories and giggle with the weather guy...LOL....crazy...

Best invention DVR/TIVO...I can record programs and watch at my leisure...I only watch World News now at 6:30 if I'm home and inside...I'll see my updates on my IPhone or access local news if/when I want...
