Yes, another relocation question. I'm weighing my options between Cary-Chapel Hill. I've got two young kids so school are of paramount importance. It seems from my research that I should stick to Chapel Hill schools? Our price range is up to 800k. I think I'd also prefer more of a town vibe than strip mall land....and it seems just online that Chapel Hill fits that criteria more?
I'm visiting in a few weeks and I'm wondering what restaurants and kid friendly activities you would recommend. I need to amuse my kids between real estate shopping.
We won't be working at least initially. We're semi-retired but I'll hope to get a job there at some point (I'm a lawyer here but would like to switch careers). So, commute isn't really an issue in the short term. Also, I've got a Chicago view on commute to begin with
I have been doing research too for my move to NC from MA from last few months.
It would be hard to beat CH schools. I would dare to say that they r best you could find in triangle.
With your budget, I think you will able to get the best of the houses out there.
Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill. If my husband didn't commute to NE Raleigh (I work from home), we'd be there in a heartbeat. Plus, our budget won't afford much there. Chapel Hill is a pretty college town with a lot of culture. But....if you don't lean left, you may feel a bit left alienated.

Chapel Hill schools are not necessarily better. It's more a case of students attending the Chapel Hill schools are better to begin with. If you moved all the poor performing Durham and Raleigh students into the Chapel Hill schools, the schools would not look so good on paper.
It's easier to have a million dollars if you start with a million dollars.
My husband and I are planning a move to N.C. once our business and our home in OK. sells. We both are "senior citizens", but far not ready to retire. =} Planning the move to be closer to our children. However, we are trying to decide which city to relocate to. One daughter is in Cary...the other in Durham. What city would be about half way between the two? And would it be as nice as Cary?
