I would take a close look at Durham also, if I was your age that is probably where I would want to be. But if you are set on Raleigh then Cameron Village and Glenwood South are good places to start. Lots of private rentals in these areas so take a look at Craigslist to see what you can find in your price range.

And don't pay any attention to the wowsers on this board - if this is what you really want then it is worth taking a chance - go for it!
