I think Jello above is insane.
I lived in an un-airconditioned walk-up the summer of '95 when Chicago had literally hundreds of heat-related deaths. Chicago summers can be absolute torture and, per my memory, temps in the 90s were pretty commonplace during the summer months.
I moved here from Chicago 3 years ago. I think the summers were just as hot back home... it's just that Chicago summers didn't last as long as they do here. That said, what's your living arrangement like in Chi-town? I NEVER had central air--just a window unit in the bedroom if I was lucky, and that's it. Plus, I always had a mile or greater walk to the El (uphill, both ways
) so... I always thought Chicago summers were BRUTAL. Here, I've got central AC and my car is parked right out front.
If I didn't force myself to go outside, I'd never even know how hot/humid it was. KWIM? Unless you have to work outdoors, I just can't imagine the summer weather here being a deterrent.
