Anyone have a guess at roughly when to expect AF1 to arrive & depart on Monday? Need to plan when 40 will be blocked and try to have my camera ready...
That may not be entirely accurate. "Air Force One" is the designation for any plane that the President is physically aboard. It is not necessarily a single plane, as commander and chief, POTUS can fly on any aircraft owned by the U.S. Government and, while he is aboard, it is Air Force One. His Helicopter, on the other hand is Marine One, there are three, they are identical and while POTUS is aboard it is designated Marine One.
yes they will shut down the road for the president. more than likely they will just use miami/alexander so they done have to use the highway. cree can be accessed from local roads.
They don't really shut down 40 for the landing I don't think, it's for the actual motorcade. I keep hoping one of these times they'll use the helicopters to avoid screwing the area. I actually saw one of the presidential transport choppers heading generally from RDU to Durham Thursday or Friday, but not over 40 at all. I assume it was the advance team scouting the area. Maybe they were scouting a route too, though I'm not sure where they would land a Chopper over at American Tobacco.
FWIW, I was at the Philadelphia airport on a layover recently when AF1 came through. They shut down pretty much everything that moved at the airport (I was on a shuttle bus between terminals at the time) for the landing, but it only lasted maybe 20 minutes, and we were all up and running again. Got to see the big 747 taxi by, which was cool. ;-) Since everything was delayed the same amount of time, there was no disruption with missing connecting flights, etc. Don't know about 40, but I wouldn't be terribly concerned about missed flights, etc., due to the landing and take-off.

Some of Obama's staff attended a Durham Bulls game I believe.
