What I mean by urban like I guess is not super country. A place were I have to drive 20 mins to get anywere like food, shopping, gas and all other normal everyday things. When I put these towns into a map site they said they were about 30 mins away or so. A 30 min commute isn't a big deal to us. Neither is $4 a gallon for gas. I was recently paying $4.55 a gallon for gas so $4 is amazing. Especially because all the jobs my boyfriend has talked to say he'll be getting payed atleast what he's getting paid now. Hopefully when we come down we'll be able to just figure everything out. DOes anyone have an idea what utilities in a 1 bedroom apt usually coast? I have no idea. In NY utilities are all included in rent.

I hope you don't drive a gas guzzler. That's more an environmental comment than one regarding your personal automotive choice.

Living in my complex or Montecito, you'd be a minute or so from everything you need.

In our total electric 1 BR, electric can run as low as $60 when no heat or A/C is needed. Average $90.Highest $125.

Water (included in Montecito), runs us $46/month. We have a washer in our unit. If you don't, you pay it to the laundry facility.

Cable/internet are discounted at Montecito if you want them. In Northridge Crossings (mine) you deal with whoever you want or can buy an indoor antenna which may get your locals. Northridge Crossings, but not Montecito, offers free computer access in our business center.

So, that's what you pay for utilities unless you get a place with gas.

Glad it helps.

If you have a place in mind, the electric utility can quote you an average bill amount if you call them. I know my supplier, Progress Energy does this.

Beware of some apts with poor insulation and inefficient heat A/C.

A tip might be to pop by the complex when the office is closed and ask a few residents about the property, maintenance, and utilities.

Come by at night to see if the area gets rowdy.

Look for abandoned or non-functional vehicles or lots of litter.

Ask on the board if you have a particular complex in mind.

Check your commute by doing it at the times you will come and go.

Good luck to you.

There's probably no reason for you to live that far from where he'll be working...and even if mapquest says 30 min it could be more with traffic during rush hour. One of the great things about living in this area is that you can actually have a shorter commute than in NY/LI/NJ -- may as well take advantge!

Good luck with the move!

So we went down an my boyfriend got all the jobs he had interviews for! I was very suprised that they were all paying more then he was making in NY. We alo signed a lease on an apartment. I hope after posting this I don;t get alot of responses about how bad the apartment complex is haha It's the reserves at lake lynn. Has anyone heard of it or know anything about them? We seemed to really liek it and the area. We also drove threw at night and it was very quiet which seemed good.
