Update on worm composting bin. Worms made it through the summer. There's a ton of them wriggling around out there. The bin is completed shaded by a shed and a tree. I'm planning on putting some sacks of leaves around it to help it through the winter.

Anyone else have experience in wintering a plastic worm bin outdoors?

Last year was my first with worms, and they all perished in the winter. I have friends that move a small bin into the garage for winter, but my shed is too crowded for that. I ended up just buying another pound of worms when April came around.

I live in Durham and purchased two bins from the city that work great. http://www.durhamcountync.gov/depart...SalesFlyer.pdf
Don't waste your money on compost starters, but know that it takes a couple of months for things to start rocking and rolling in your bin. Good luck!
