I am 68 years old and grew my hair out for locks of love but as my hair is gray that org. won't accept it. Is there any organization or salons in the triangle are that accepts long gray hair. I will be happy for any information as I am looking forward to having short hair again, but not until some worthwhile organization gets the benefit of 2+ years of hair growth.

If locks of love won't accept it, then I doubt anybody else will. If you want a hair cut, go ahead and get one. Give your hair to a gardener, some of whom think it will keep deer and rabbits away.

It looks like most places won't accept gray hair because gray hair doesn't dye well, and all wigs are dyed before they're given to patients.

I googled where to donate gray hair and found this:
Wig Fund: Wigs: World of Wigs - High quality wigs, hairpieces, costume wigs and more!

also check wigs for kids--it doesn't specify they don't accept gray hair.

According to the Locks of Love website, they cannot use your gray hair, but they will accept it and sell it to help offset their costs. Maybe not what you had in mind, but still helps a noble cause.

From their website:
Q. Can I donate gray hair?
A. Yes, we can accept donations of gray hair. Because we only provide hairpieces to children, we cannot use this hair in a hairpiece but will sell it to offset our manufacturing costs

Pantene's program, while it only requires 8 inches of hair, also doesn't accept gray. I would do as Mizu said: make the donation so that Locks of Love can sell it.

And you're awesome, by the way. I <3 Locks of Love. I've made 1 donation and I'm ready for another any day now!

Kudos, to you James, for your efforts. My daughter donated her hair (a foot or so!) and it is an awesome program.

To the original poster--look into that "Silver's Wig" link MSKB posted. That would be an AWESOME way to help an older person with a medically-related hair loss!
