Hi,

I'm looking for recommendations for a therapist in Chapel Hill to sort through some issues. Does anyone have someone they've worked with that they can recommend?

If you're willing to drive just a little farther to Durham (Broad Street), I highly recommend Beth Shulman. I have found her to be smart, present, non-judgmental and interactive (not just "Uh huh..." with a nod!).

Physical? Occupational? Psychological? Sexual? Massage? Nutritional? What kind of therapist?

What's her background and psychological perspective? My wife is smart, present, non-judgemental and interactive, but I wouldn't go to her for counseling. The Uh-huhs and nods are sometimes the most effective way to allow the client to actualize their issues. But of course, much more is needed to move beyond them and develop healthier ways of relating to others.

I only intended to give a brief recommendation, not an essay. The best way for someone interested to learn more is to talk to Beth or whomever directly. No description of theory or style can really describe what someone's like to work with.

Again Durham and not Chapel Hill, but not too far -- near Southpoint. Both Sammy Banawan and Karen Erikson are great. I know them professionally rather than as a patient, but I can attest both to their compassionate skills and to their professional training (CBT and DBT, for those interested in theoretical orientation.)
