We are looking to relocate to Raleigh area from Ca. My husband is a native Californian and has never lived in humidity and is worried about being able to handle it. I was wondering when it starts to get humid and when does it end? Those of you you moved from dryer climates - have you handled it OK? Thanks
You may find you like it better than the dry barren surroundings of the OC and much of Cali....but some leave for a more humid place and can never get a feel for it.
It's worked both ways for people. Just because it's unfamiliar now doesn't mean you can't come to enjoy it later. You do have actual weather events (e.g. thunderstorms) regularly in NC.
I JUST moved to NC from CA a few months ago...it is hot and humid here...but it is in CA nowdays too. I really don't notice that much of a difference. And it's not everyday. Some days are worse then others...just like CA. I lived in CA my entire life and I do not find this that much different from CA today! Years ago CA/Los Angeles area was a much drier climate. Now more water is piped in and the climate has gotten a lot more humid. At least you get the green and beauty here!!
What humidity? We just moved from southern CA last week and have been stuck inside with the AC with a sick toddler most of the time... so maybe I'm missing something.
Okay, I've gone outside to go to the store and such and it is sticky out there, but I personally prefer it to the dry furnace blast of southern CA.
Just a side story, but I was at an outdoor wedding this weekend in the tiny little town of Burkittsville, MD (about 60 miles Northwest of DC) and there was this 14 y/o girl visiting from San Diego. She passed out on one of the tables right before we started to eat. It was about 97 degrees and very Humid. She said she WAS NOT used to this kind of heat and humidity at all.
I was hot, but I'm used to the humidity, so it doesn't effect the people that are used to it as much, but a 14 y/o girl that had never been to the East coast before was VERY affected by it.

Yeah, and I don't miss the headaches I would get from the Santa Ana winds blowing...plus the dry skin, eyes, throat...yuk!
To me, hot is hot...and its all better than cold! Its harder on those who sweat alot...or just more uncomfortable. My husband is a sweater, I am not...and I feel for him.
The more you sweat, the better you do in the heat.
I sweat profusely, love the heat, and smell like a wet dog.
