I am looking for an office or classroom space that could seat up to 20 individuals for use on the weekends only. I'm thinking that some local business owner might have a facility (waiting room? dance/karate studio?) that they only use during the weekdays -- that they could "sublet" to me on a per-use basis for some extra income.

What area(s) are you open to having your meeting space?

What about a daycare? I know my daughter's girl scout troop meets at a daycare after-hours. Maybe they'd be willing to lease the space on the weekends--if they have a meeting room that is, and not just those itty bitty seats and tables

Some libraries have meeting rooms available on weekends. Not sure what area of the triangle you're in, but you may want to check with your local library to see if they have a room that would work for you.

Libraries won't allow for-profit operations...I'm teaching classes and charging for them ;-) A day care might work, though I'm not so sure about the seats (think pregnant women in mini-chairs meant for toddlers and you'll understand ;-) As far as location, central to the triangle -- like Brier Creek/RTP -- would be LOVELY, but I'm really open as long as it's not at the far end of the universe.

I was doing the same type of research when I needed space for a for profit venture. Here's what I found:

I'd suggest checking with nearby colleges and universities. I know there's a part of Duke that rents space out, but that may be a bit of a trek for some of your participants. Here's the info on Duke:

About - Sanford School of Public Policy - Facility Rental

Check local hotels for their rates. I believe the Wyndham Hotel and Holiday Inn Express both on Miami Blvd. (both in SE Durham, not too far from Brier Creek) was the one that was most reasonable.

There are the local Parks and Recreation facilities. I don't know about other places, but our recreation centers in Durham have rooms available (think parties and family reunion type rooms) year round for rental.

Another option are retirement communities. I only knew of one place in particular that did this and they were really picky about who rents their space.

Ahhh, some good ideas there. Unfortunately, cost is definitely a factor. I'm thinking I can *gross* a maximum of $900 for two full days of instruction..I really don't want to pay much more than $200 for the space (I know...it appears like I'm insane...I really am not...just hopeful). The community centers are $40-70 an hour...and I'm talking at least 12 hours -- thus, they -- along with most other real commercial spaces -- are cost prohibitive for me. That's why I'm thinking the idea of someone's lobby (chiropractor? dentist? therapist?)...just to give someone *a little* extra income.
