My wife and I are thinking about selling our house (my wife wants to move closer to work). Problem is we don't really know any RE agents in this area. We'd rather not just pick one out of the phone book, so we are looking for some recommendations. We live in east Durham and we are hoping to find an agent who knows that area well. I know there are several agents on this board, so I thought it would be a good place to ask. We are looking for someone that will tell us like it is. Please PM me if you know of a good RE agent.

Thanks

Apparently there are no good listing agents out there or they don't need the work. Guess we'll just have to pick one out of the phone book.

Since I don't live in E. Durham I can't help...but I will say that In general it is a good idea to hire a realtor who is most familiar with your own neighborhood. I've seen realtors who are working outside of their normal territory and it doesn't build confidence when they don't know where anything is.

Your best bet is to take a drive around your own neighborhood (literally, or you can go online at a real estate listing website) and see who is listing houses in your area. You don't have to hire them sight unseen...they will expect to meet with you at your home with some info about how they approach their marketing plan. You will get some idea of how prepared they are and how they handle your questions. You are looking for a personality you can work with. Call at least three and pick the one you like best!

That's great advice. And I agree with not signing up with a RE agent from outside your area. That's why I asked for recommendations. We plan on meeting with at least 3 before we make any decisions on what we are going to do.

Dave

There are a few realtors that post regularly in the Raleigh/Durham CD section. The would be an excellent resouce to start with. If they can't help you personally I am sure they can reccomend an agent or two for you to meet with.

Good luck in selling your home. May you get many full priced offers!

Hello,
I can tell you that most agents do not have to be "specialists" in the neighborhood to market your home. If you look around your immediate area you will find a vast amount of "different firms" ie: one in Raleigh, Durham, Apex...the whole surrounding area. Technology and easy access to data has proven to give agents all the information they need....they are marketing to buyers and other buyer's agents...BUT when you are looking to buy a home IMO it is more important to have an agent that knows the area you are looking to buy because it's the "buyers" that have all the questions.
