Gosh, thank you so much for all your helpful responses. When our house sells it will all depend on where a house comes up for $370 max. but preferably cheaper. Right now I'm watching a couple of places in Duke Forest and around Forest Hills. We're looking for a big house on a big lot - like over a third of an acre near a good park and biking/walking trail. And a short drive to a library because we are a homeschooling family. Oh, and wouldn't it be nice to be near a pool?!

We are not sure about whether to go city or country ie. Durham, or outside Durham at this point. I have been staying up way too late reading past threads about Hillsborough and Wake Forest. Both sounds great but I'm thinking Wake Forest may be a little on the conservative side. My husband works from home but things could change and if he needs to go looking for work, then we don't wanna be too far out. Anyway, we can't wait to visit and drive around.

Yeah, we're done with long dreary rainy winters and summers that never seem to get underway. (It was cool and overcast today in Pdx) I'm hoping to find a city that we can stay in for good, you know? Durham looks to be so woodsy and cute. I honestly don't know how we'll go with the heat and humidity etc., but I'm sure you get used to it! Anyway I'm liking the idea of some decent summer heat, like last year in Portland we ended up with a whole bunch of green tomatoes at the end of summer. It just never did warm up sufficiently. And a few good summer storms sounds good too! So moody!

Durham has some wonderful homeschooling coops that have me tempted to homeschool myself.

I live in Duke Forest--feel free to message me if you want some info about this neighborhood. Smallest lot you'll find here is .4, but most are around .5-.6+. There is a nice park in the neighborhood--it's more or less walkable depending on where in the hood you live. But the walking trails are pretty accessible from anywhere here.

There's a new membership pool at the Levin Center on Cornwallis Rd.

I know of at least two homes in DF right now that would be well-suited for working from home, and they're both under $300k.

If it makes you feel less anxious about leaving Portland, we had some visitors in from Portland last week and they were commenting about how much the places we took them in Durham reminded them of Portland. Except it was hot.

New slogan for the Dee-Cee-Vee-Bee!

"Durham -- We're Hotter Than Portland! (But Not Always In A Good Way)"

They also commented on how much it was like Portland, except that here, kids are allowed in bars. LOL.
