Is it common for roofers to leave excess materials such as shingles & tacks at the home when they are finished? Also I am concerned about the large amount of shingles (15+ packages) that were left in my driveway. Something seems wonky. The crew did not communicate at all and just left this stacked in my driveway. I feel like I need a roof inspection now because of this.
Someone should come by after to pick them up. Mine were picked up a day or two after.
Agreed. Keep the extra shingles for future minor repairs.
We just did a new roof and our contractor left the open bundle plus one complete bundle - this way you have the manufacturer data from the production plant. I noticed our Certainteed Landmark shingles were manufactured just up the road in Oxford, NC.
Probably not a bad idea to have the roof checked ... between proper nailing, flashing, ridge/soffit venting, etc. its not a bad idea at all.
Thanks everyone for the great advice! I wanted to keep a bundle, but I have back problems and no help. SO the sales guy/project manager came by and inventoried the left over materials. Never said a word to me. I had some issues with the way things had been handled on the insurance end, so I called the owner & he came to see me. The project manager was with him & he stayed busy putting the materials in a truck. Since I was unhappy with several financial issues, I ended up getting credit for the extra materials (obviously my insurance had paid for them) plus other things that were listed in the quote, but were not done. Came out with about $863, so it pays to question things!
