This is for someone who does not have insurance and will pay cash. From calling around, the cheapest we have found is $240. We are in Cary, but will travel for the right price. Thanks!

Sign up for Groupon and LivingSocial. Local dentist coupons appear once in a while and are often half price.

Yes, definitely Groupon and Living Social. There is one every few months. I have used it and had no issues with it. I have generally paid around $70 through those sites.

My suggestion: Try Dental Works in Cary, very friendly. Not too expensive. Not sure about the actual price you will pay.

I have insurance so I can't answer this specifically, but my dentist is Venet Family Dentistry in Garner. They are all great people, and Dr. Venet gives straight-up honest answers, so if nothing else pans out it might be worth talking to them. Venet has always given me all the options and explained each one, even making recommendations that didn't send the most money his way. This is the opposite of some dentists I have been to.

Wake Dental Care (Hwy 55 & high house in Cary) has a special for $120 for uninsured patients. They have a coupon in today's Valupak mailer. The special is also listed as a special on their website.

Wake Dental Care - Monthly Specials

I don't have any experience with their practice.

UNC School of Dentistry

UNC's dental school says they are about 1/3 the cost of private dentists. You do have to apply to become a patient.

I would think just about any dentist in the triangle would be able to do that for under $240 - depends how many X-rays you really have taken. Just did a quick check of my recent insurance claims for our dentists and listed them below (children use a different pediatric dentist who also charges more) - these are undiscounted rates, some/all of which were re-imbursed by insurance.

Adult (2011)
Periodic Oral Evaluation (D0120) $38
Cleaning - Adult (D1110) $70
Bitewings - Four Films (D0274) $48

Child (2011)
Periodic Oral Evaluation (D0120) $56
Cleaning - Child (D1120) $70
Bitewings - Two Films (D0272) $51

Adult (2007)
Panoramic X- Ray (D0330) $80
Complete X- Ray Series (D0210) $110

Are Xrays are a scam? Shouldn't we just get them only when we need them?
