Ugh, I'm glad you're excited about yours. I *HATE* that ish! My townhouse neighborhood has fences that were custom built with a little fenced-in area to keep your trash can. The blue cart AND the regular trashcan won't fit, so folks are just sticking them here and there. I wish there had been a choice in the matter. Plus, the old green one is STILL sitting around. Can I put IT in the recycling bin?

As for all the "oops", I don't believe in "oops", I stick whatever looks like it might be recyclable in there. I figure it'll get sorted out eventually.

Pizza boxes usually have absorbed oils that can't be removed. I love my big recycle cart in Cary. I even upgraded to the larger one. Between recycling and composting, my family of four only generates one bag of trash per week (if even that much!).

And in Cary, we were told to put the old green bin inside the new rolling cart!

Drives me nuts that they don't take "clamshell" containers or lids. If it's got a number on it, they should be able to handle it.

And why no #6 plastics in Raleigh? Cary takes 1-7...makes it easy, if it weren't for the darn clamshells and lids.

I really like the amount of stuff that can be recycled down here. In NY it was just newspapers, cans and bottles

It is nice that we can all feel good about dumping nearly every conceivable material into one bin and think that we are doing our part to save the world, but I really have to wonder how much actually get converted into usable materiel. We do know that, with the exception of aluminum, recycling is not economically viable. I'm not sure how "they should be able to handle" the sorting of all the various types of plastics and other materials - seems incredibly labor intensive.

I do recycle and try to be conscientious about how I do it. Is it really any good to throw a bunch of newspaper and cardboard in a bin and then throw a bunch of bottles that are going to drip all over the paper and make it a soggy lump before it can ever be processed? How about a peanut butter jar - is it ok to throw it in the bin with pb still all over it? How many other resources would I (or the recycling plant) waste trying to clean the pb off the jar?

I think a lot of recycling is like taking our shoes off at airport security. It makes some people feel good but is of very questionable value.

Yes. Too often the box is a soggy mess when you have pizza delivered. We only recycle the pizza boxes that we get as doggy "bags" at restaurants. . . . . i.e., not pizza that has been delivered to the house. These are usually clean.

Nope. We have a ton of Redbridge bottles (wife has Celiac disease, so has to drink sorghum beer) in there each week, but since I make my own beer, I re-use those bottles for my next batch. The ultimate recycling program . . . . . I recycle my own trash myself

We do not live in the city, so we take our recycleables to the Wake County recycle center on Yates Mill Rd about twice a month. Our trunk is usually packed full to the brim.

Is it true the recycles can is every other week pick up? If so, that's kinda yucky. Does it attract bees and flies? I live in a neighborhood with no garages, will be a hassle finding space in the driveway for another dumPster can. I also wonder how much of the recycles are actually recycled.

My pick up is every other week and we have no problem with bees or flies.
