Just make cars drive themselves. The end.

Wandering between leans
Coming to panic stops

They are doing something with their phone. I know state bans won't stop this. There is too much other stuff to worry about, I go to ny all the time (where there is a ban) and I see police on their phones even and regular folks also.

Traffic Fatalities are down per miles driven.
Americans are driving more, but traffic deaths down - USATODAY.com

Yet we we insist on more laws. I agree it's stupid to talk on the phone and drive, but we don't need another law. If you ask me it's just another way for the gov't to write out easy tickets and cash in.
The funniest thing to me is that a few years ago before cell phones were so commonplace (I'm 40 so this is not totally a "kids today" whine ) I saw people doing all these same things. The problem is people, not phones. Some people are idiots, regardless. Put a phone into one of these people's hands and suddenly when they do their normal stupid stuff it's the phones fault. Taking them away is not going to make them pay attention to driving.

That's right. Just like you still see some people speed despite the speed limits and the speed traps. Also, some people will get behind the wheel drunk despite the fact that there are some tough DWI laws out there. So, let's abolish those laws as well. Because some people will do as they please , regardless of the consequences.

I have no issues with DWI laws. I just think since there are laws that cover distracted driving and careless and reckless that they should just be applied to instances when cell phone use is the distraction. Do we also need a specific anti-makeup applying law, or anti-shaving law (I've seen this many times) too?

I'm a young person, and I know if my cell phone's there, unless I make a concerted effort to turn it off (which I have to do sometimes), I'm messing with it.

How many times have you been looking at something on your phone and looked up at the last second to realize you've almost rear-ended someone? This law is a good idea to at least get people thinking about how dangerous messing with your phone and driving really is.

Yes. Because relationships between consenting adults kill and maim people every day.

So, are you saying we should not let anyone marry? That goes beyond the initiative from Raleigh.
Or folks can marry, but just not have a phone?
Or, gays can or cannot marry, as long as they use a bluetooth?

Gosh, that was a confusing response...
The permutations of contextual dissonance are endless.
