We recently moved down to Cary, and are looking for suggestions on Boy Scout Troops in Cary. I have searched online, and many show up. (come from a town that had one troop). Any one here with personal experience with any troops? My son is 13, and needs to find an active group of boys to join up with.
We just joined troop 222, which meets at the Macedonia Baptist Church on Holly Springs Rd, just a bit south of Crossroads Mall. My son is 6 and is a Tiger Scout.
So far I have been impressed with the enthusiasm of the leadership and the number of activities. I would suggest waiting until after Oct 25th to join, because then the popcorn sale will be over
It's not like it was when I was a kid though. So much red tape (mainly dealing with legal issues regarding child molestation) to deal with . . . . and the kids actually get homework assignments to help them along with their rank advancement.
Just for clarification... "Pack" 222 meets at Macedonia Baptist Church and is a Cub Scout Pack, not Boy Scouts. There is a Troop 222, which is somewhat associated with the Cub Scout pack 222, but they meet off of Kildaire Farm Rd., past Ten Ten Rd. in the south Cary area.
Probably the best way for your son to decide on a local Troop is to visit a few of them and let him pick the one he likes best.

I never even noticed that there were no boy scouts in the meetings. Thanks for the clarification.

No problem. I know the cub master of Pack 222 is looking to strengthen the relationship with Troop 222 and sometimes the older scouts come over and participate in some events.
The Y guides/princesses program is intended for fathers to forge a closer relationship with their sons or daughters.
I wanted to get my son into something when he was young, and I didn't like the Boy scouts. But there was nothing at the Y for us -- I adopted him as a single mother. The Y guides/princesses program was (and is) open ONLY to fathers and their children.
He grew up fine without any of 'em.
The Boy Scouts don't care if its members have single mothers.

Pack 200 meets at First United Methodist Church on Tuesdays it is a big pack, it had great leaders in the past but have not been involved in it recently so don't know if that is still true. Worth checking out.

I have a neighbor with a cub scout in this pack (think I have the terminology right) and they really like it!
I went through the whole scout program, it was great. I just moved to the are a few years ago, but I can't wait until my son is old enough to give it a shot. I hope he like it as much as I did.
