.The demand for information-technology labor in North Carolina jumped 11.9 percent in September from August, according to the N.C. Technology Association.
I love the links to related stories: 3 of them are about how the IT market is continuing to decline. Of course those stories are a couple of months old.
"Raleigh ranks third in demand for IT workers" as a headline is misleading.
The reality is that Raleigh falls behind Charlotte and Hickory (that humongous metropolis, Hickory!) for a small rise in available IT jobs in a very short time period: August to September.
IT workers shouldn't be packin' their bags for the land of milk and honey quite yet.

Reason: Thread title changed to reflect the *local* aspect of the story.
The story doesn't tell us everything one needs to know about IT employment opportunities. It only tells us about the growth rate of those opportunities now.
What we don't know from this story is:
1. What were the baselines for which the growth rates were applied?
2. Does the "Raleigh Metro" include Durham (which I doubt)
3. What % of the metro is employed in the IT category?
4. What are the total numbers of IT category employment in each Metro?
Given that the Hickory metro is small and high tech probably isn't the bedrock of their economy, any semi-significant IT hiring activity is likely to result in a more stastically significant uptick by percentage. Just food for thought.
