Thanks!
This deserves a loving thread of it's own. Deva Curl methods are not what the OP wants, according to the posted price range. That said, I LOVE Deva Curl, both for men and women!

Speaking of Deva Curl curly hair specialists, Will Champagne is awesome! I didn't know there was another Deva Curl specialist in the Triangle.

Now, he is priced reasonably if you are seeking a high skill level, but well outside of the thirty-dollar range. He is not a stylist or dresser; he is a SPECIALIST on curly hair. He'll spend 2-3 hours with you on just your hair, and you won't visit him but 2-3 times a year (he's that good). He only takes a select clientele, so before you actually contact him, review the Deva Curl methods (MyDevaCurl - Home) and SAVE UP for the time in his chair!

His studio is called the Curl Lounge.
His website (techniques, prices) is: Curl Lounge (www.willchampagne.com)
Other details online (number, address, reviews) are found HERE.
I wouldn't trade him for a $50 stylist any day for my curly tresses.

Sorry for the digression, as this is not relevant specifically to the original post, but I ventured this post for some food for thought in support of curly girls (and guys).

I ended up going to Scott a couple of days after I posted originally. He's great - and located right near Crossroads in Cary in a Stylist Studio. Down to earth, listens, really coaches you to style your curls in a more natural way (which I prefer) that stays for a couple of days.

I also really like Deva Curl. The method of cutting (curl by curl instead of going with a "line" or "layer" like other stylists do) yields great results. The products are better for me than any I've used before - and I have done Ouidad, Fekkai, Bumble & Bumble, and other famous salons in my search for good curl care when I lived in Manhattan.

The price for a cut is more than the OP was looking to spend, but given the method I can see why you would only need to go a couple of times a year. It will probably average out to about even with what I used to spend with far better results.

I go to Liz Michaels in Apex. Natalie is who I use. She charges $50 now ( was 45...just went up ) but that is for a cut and blow dry. She is great! She takes time to talk with you to ask what you want done - same as last cut or trying something new etc. My hair is pin straight and fine and her cut always comes out the same way. I like that she can do that. I've been to some that would never get it the same way when they first cut it and then you hope it comes out ok.

He is way, way above the $30 price range.
