Looking to take my wife out for a nice dinner...actually willing to dress up in a suit! :-)

Any recommendations for the nicest fine dining restaurants in this area?

There are a lot of threads on this topic, so you might search for recommendations.

What part of the Triangle are you in? Is there a type of food you prefer?

My personal favorite for a romantic dinner is Nana's in Durham.

Second Choice is Elaine's on Franklin in Chapel Hill.

Another favorite of min is Vin Rouge in Durham.

In the same area (9th Street) is Metro 8 Steakhouse.

There are many other good choices in the Triangle. Others I know will chime in with their Raleigh favorites.

I live in Fuquay so things in or near Raleigh probably are best bet I would think.

Second Empire is an obvious choice: Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern -
Fearrington House if you don't mind driving out there: North Carolina Bed and Breakfast – Fearrington Inn: Chapel Hill, NC

Bojangles. You see a lot of people in suits after church.

Herons in Cary just received 5 stars from Forbes Travel Guide making it one of just 25 in the country to get 5 stars.

Herons is indeed a very nice restaurant. What knocks it off the list for me is that it's located in a hotel. Probably a pretty petty gripe. Just feels like one too many business meetings/dinners I've been to. On the other hand, for a truly romantic weekend, a hotel stay coupled with dinner might be very nice.

I'm noticing most people are listing Durham and Chapel HIll restaurants. Are there more in those areas?

Second Empire certainly is on Raleigh's "short list" and should be visited at least once. We also like the Bloomsbury Bistro at Five Points which is less-known. 518 West is where we went for our last "celebration", but there doesn't seem to be much as far as "out of the way tables" for privacy.

And of course, there is always the Angus Barn, a Raleigh "legend". Some people way underdress IMO for the place but it's still considered one of the primo "places to celebrate an occasion". I have a friend who works there--PM me and I can get you set up with him for top-notch service and a good table.

We did Heron's for our anniversary this year. We stayed at The Umstead that night as well. It was lovely.

Ruth's Chris and An are two places that are quite nice for anniversaries and such if you're in Cary.
