OMG, I thought I'd better clarify this comment. Yes, a man SHOULD pay for a meal. If she invited you, she may want to pay, but it is nice to make the gesture and let her insist on paying. If it's just a cup of coffee, she may step up to the counter and pay herself. Whatever you do, don't hint that you have wasted money on a date if you don't get lucky. See, we aren't just getting something to eat, we are forced to do a dance as well.

But to the OP, if this is someone you already know and not just an online meet or blind set up, by all means, go to a nice place for dinner. I would be thrilled to pieces if an eligible guy I knew asked me out to Crooks Corner.

Some of us are just old and jaded and things like that don't happen without a lot of effort.

Hope you have a great date!

Find a neat place romantic that has been there a long time and stands a good chance of being there a lot longer..
That way if she happens to be that someone special you have a place that you can go back to on anniversaries.

Whoever did the asking should do the paying. Period. No lame macho insistence from the guy that he gets to pay. That would totally turn me off. Be gracious and say thank-you-I-had-a-good-time, but don't go all macho on me, lest you never get a second chance.

What's sad is that there's a need to state this outright. This should be a "goes without saying" think but apparently it's not. Scary.
