I think this is a great idea. I noted that it will train osteopathic doctors (DO) rather than MD's. They emphasize wellness and prevention, and also are trained in manipulation, somewhat like chiropracters.
I was initially skeptical about the qualifications of a DO, but I see one now and she is fine.
They had a story on NPR a couple weeks ago about the difference between DOs and MDs. In reality their qualifications and training are equal but there's always been protectionism on the part of MDs to have DOs seen as less qualified. It was a really interesting story and I wish I could find the podcast for it! I always suck at searching on NPR's website though because I can never remember which show I heard a story on
The AMA, comprised of allopathic physicians (MDs) had a long history of opposing osteopathic physicians (DOs). I think they finally dropped their campaign against DOs some number of years ago, perhaps in response to some antitrust claims
Our youngest, who spent five years working at IBM's RTP offices and loved the Raleigh area until his lay-off in early 2009, finished an accelerated two year pre-Med program at Harvard in May and will soon be applying to Med Schools for Fall 2013 admission.
His list of potential NC Medical Schools just grew by 20%!
Great to hear this. My wife goes to Campbell - well used to since she will be graduating next week. The school is great place, small, and personable. The university is reinvesting in itself so I can't wait to see what the campus looks like in the coming years.
Betsy Johnson in Dunn is pretty nice...not too far from Campbell I guess
