I am looking for a store that has a good selection of high quality walking shoes (including sneaker types).

Knowledgeable sales staff is high priority. It would be great if they did some kind of gait / foot analysis also.

Someone in my neighborhood recommended The Walking Company - any opnions or other suggestions?

I moved from NJ and did not have much luck there with running stores (plantar fasciitis and foot pain from the wrong shoes) - but I am up for trying one if it is good

Thanks in advance for your help!

Oh, I almost forgot. I am in Apex, so something close would be nice.

There's a SAS Shoe store in Crossroads Plaza in Cary, and also a walking shoe store in Cary Towne Center (I think it's still there!). I don't have personal experience with either, but based on what little I know they might be good options. A podiatrist might be willing to recommend some, if you wanted to try calling (they might try and get you to come in for a visit, though!) - mine recommended a few running shoe places several years ago. Good luck!!

A drive down to the Merrell Shoe outlet store in Smithfield might be worth your while.

Wife likes The Walking Shoe Store products and service.
It is not cheap.

Have you tried New Balance stores yet? My husband has all sorts of issues with finding proper fitting shoes because of fallen arches, etc, and has had good luck there.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

I checked out your leads online and I think I am going to give The Walking Company a try (they have New Balance's recommended walkers there as well as a bunch of other brands). I don't mind spending more now to find the right make/model that I can later go online for when I need a replacement.

I am probably crazy for going to the mall at this time of year but Santa is bringing new shoes for Christmas so I need to get on it!
