Just heard the loudest, strangest sounding "airplane" I have ever heard in my life. Seemed to take at least 15-20 seconds, and even after I walked outside, I could hear it in the distance.

Anyone else hear it? Around 5:55pm Wednesday?

Obama left around 1:30. Whatever you heard it was not the President leaving.

I saw a Chinook and a Black Hawk fly over earlier; their blended rotor noise didn't sound like a regular helo.

This sounded a lot like my neighbor rolling their empty trash can up their gravel driveway....blasted through loudspeakers. I hear enough planes coming and going out of RDU that I'm very familiar with their sound. This lasted longer than a typical flyover, and was MUCH louder. I missed whatever it was, but could hear it moving towards Wake Forest as I walked outside. My kids even came running asking "what's that noise?". Never heard anything quite like it. I hear the WRAL chopper flying all around Falls Lake a lot, and this did not sound like that chopper.

I saw the two helicopters as well, from Falls of Neuse Rd around 3:30. The second was definitely a Chinook, but the first really looked like it had a white roof (Marine One).

Could it have been a cargo plane transporting a limousine?

I wonder if you might have been able to find information from Wofram Alpha, as described in this article:
