Most of the families go home after the early acorn drop. Then the younger crowd stays for the real drop. Delta Rae is playing before the midnight drop and they are definitely worth seeing. Chuck Davis is a local gem and always fun to witness, and the Cirque de Vol performers always draw a young hip crowd. Back when I used to be young and single, we used to go to a bar, have a drink, pop out to a First night activity, then hit another bar...etc. Now that there are so many places to go downtown, I am sure it will be quite a scene later on. There will likely be a street party happening on Hargett in front of Times Bar, and all up and down Fayetteville Street. I am guessing the pedicabs will be running all over too. Maybe the acorn is corny, but its ours.
Downtown sounds fun, but I have zero interest in that. I know I know... get off my lawn. :-) I don't really know anyone to hang with, so I'll probably be couching it with a movie and a cocktail. Woo wee! Par-tay! lol
I"m sure lots of local bars have NYE celebrations. I am actually DJ'ing New Years Eve at The Crabtree Tavern in Raleigh and I think it's free to get in. (I'll probably get flagged for advertising for that!!!)
