Latest news on the Costco Cary store mystery. According to WRAL, Costco wants to open one in Cary and is eyeing the MacGregor shopping center??! Seems the MacGregor Downs folks oppose. What about Waverly Place or Beaver Creek instead?

I wish they would open it in Macgregor. That old plaza needs a face lift and a new costco would be great. I despise that yucky walmart located at the corner of Kildaire/Tryon! The issue about the Macgregor location is the traffic merging onto US1.

A massive reconfiguration of access there would be required, and the congestion is some of the area's worst already.

Beavercreek seems like a good spot! I hope they open on this side of town!

I'm not sure that access is all that much of an issue. The Raleigh Costco doesn't have direct access from Wake Forest Road, and it's not a problem getting in & out of it on a busy Saturday afternoon. The Durham one is a bit of a pain if you want to turn left onto N. Point Drive, but also not a source of major traffic jams.

+1 You think they could build an access ramp direct to the 540 Toll Road to the undeveloped part of Beaver Creek behind Tylers Taproom / Dicks Sporting Goods. At least access would be better than McGregor Village.

That large piece of undeveloped land on the other side of Beaver Creek where the townhomes are would be ideal! Has the developer stalled their plans on developing anything there?

US 64 carries more traffic than Wake Forest Road or 6 Forks Road in the area of Costco in Raleigh.
Here's some data that will have you staring....
NCDOT: Pdf Document
And it is a collector for US1, so the traffic flow is just a little more like freeway than thoroughfare.
It really looks like a dead corner to me.
Costco in Raleigh allows access from several directions, although dependent on 6 Forks and Wake Forest. One can use Industrial or Creekside to get to the store.
And at least 6 Forks basically ends at Atlantic, so it is not carrying other through traffic directly from points east.

People sure fussed about the Superstreet plan a couple of years ago, and are getting geared up as noted regarding replacing a neighborhood plaza with a big box.
All in response to congestion and proposed superstreet on US 64.
