My hubby is from Michigan. Been here 12 years. The transplants who gripe about how much this place sucks compared to home annoy him more than they annoy me, and I was born here.
I agree with you. When I lived in Georgia for 16 years (coming from Long Island, NY), it always pissed me off how many New Yorkers would complain about Georgia, but REFUSE to go back. I fell in love with the south because I visited the other states.
Now that I'm living in Raleigh, it still pisses me off to hear another Yankee hear my accent and then instantly start complaining about here. Some people need something to complain about, or else they'll actually be "happy"

Yeah. I think you're onto something there.

I agree that they are two very impressive universities. To quote my original post, "the universities here are very good".
But they are not Princeton and Harvard, and it is slightly annoying that people go on and on about them as if they are.
you get that in most places. in va we act like uva and va tech are the best places in the world. there are more good schools in a smaller geographical area in the NE due to geography and population density.

That's true. I grew up in Philadelphlia. There are dozens of 4-year colleges in the Philly region. Many of them are well-regarded universities - like Penn, Haverford, Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, Drexel, Temple, Villanova, etc.
