Disability Friendly Cities and Apartments? (Raleigh, Alliance: living, move to, public transportation)

My fiance is in a wheelchair and we are looking to move to this area of north carolina. Are there any residents or people experienced with the needs of someone who is wheelchair bound that can tell us about this area or more disability friendly areas of N.C. ?

A good friend of mine is a peer counselor with the Alliance of Disability Advocates: Alliance of Disability Advocates - Center for Independent Living

I know my friend (who is wheelchair bound) uses public transportation and lives independently a pretty healthy distance from her work, but I'm not sure how she'd say the Triangle compares with anywhere else. I'd contact that organization with specific questions.
