I'm looking for those in Wake County that are wanting to carpool with other families for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. Please contact me. We just found out that we were accepted to a magnet and have no transportation.

Reason: NOT a good idea to post private contact info on a public board

Most important is that you'll need to give some indication of where [general part of town, and which town] you'll be carpooling from and to.

I would call the magnet and ask them if they have a website for their PTA/PFA. Or a contact for the president of the PTA/PFA. I'm betting that they may have a message board or something. That will probably be your easiest path since there are so many magnets and so many parts of Wake! My daughter goes to a charter and the PFA sends out emails and has a board for posting carpool needs.
Some of the magnets require you provide transportation.
I know that used to be the case if you lived outside the assignment area. I am confused, I thought that with the changes we could only apply to ones in our new neighborhood schools area?
raleighlass--you can still apply for the same magnets that we've always been able to apply to during the magnet app period. Some magnets aren't available to you depending on where you live. For instance, I have Ligon for AG and GT while others have Martin and Carnage. If there is more than one school that has a program (IB, GT, AG, Creative Arts) then they only serve certain portions of the county.
Wiley is open to the entire county but doesn't offer any transportation services to my address. parents have to provide transportation.

Thanks! I appreciate the explanation - very helpful! With all the changes that we've gone through, I was muddled on what had changed (if any) re: magnets. I applied for my daughter to Millbrook IB and she was accepted and we have express busing. I figured with the new system, if a magnet school was listed under one's choice based on home address, then you would have bus service. I didn't realize they still allowed students to apply from out of their neighborhood but as you say, they can, and so just as it used to be, they must provide their own transportation. I feel so bad for folks moving here... I am confused and I've lived here forever!
