It's no secret in the dental world that MetLife is pretty sucky to participate in on the provider side, which is why the provider list is so limited around here. Does anyone have recommendations on a MetLife provider? General DDS is fine, but would also welcome for endodontists and even (gasp) a prosthodontist.
I'm in Cary, but a good DDS is worth a drive, so really open to anybody in the Triangle. Thanks!
I know what you mean! We have Met Life also. We had been paying out-of-network to see the one we really loved, but if you need something major, that can be cost prohibitive. We decided to switch to an in-network provider when Hubby needed a crown last year.
We've found Stanley Dentistry to be a good fit for us. They have locations in Holly Springs and Cary.
I have Metlife & go to an out-of-network provider. My benefits, for out-of-network, remained at 100% for preventive cleanings/xrays; and since my dentists fee's are within the reasonable/customary range, MetLife covers it at 100% AND they still file the claim for you.
I agree, that a great dentist is hard to find, & if you've found one stay with him/her.
I've also noticed that most specialists; i.e.; oral surgeons, endodontists etc are NOT in- etwork with ANY insurance. You pay up front & they submit for you.
I wish I could point you to my dentist but he dropped out of Metlife late last year. The reason they gave was the poor reimbursement amounts that had not been increased in years. I just had my first cleaning which was paid at 100% even though they are now out of network. I believe they received $132 instead of the $75 or so they would have gotten as an in-network provider. If I need anything expensive like another crown I know I'll need to go to an in-network dentist though!

My crown was just about $90 more out-of-network, so I decided to stay with my dentist rather than RISK going to someone who I did not know. I had a friend that did that once & the crown FAILED within 3 years & he had to pay for the replacement b/c his Ins would only pay for a new crown on the same tooth after 5 yrs.
We have MetLife and see Dr. Karen Torres. She's in MacGregor Village, off 64. Very nice, general dentist. Our four year old sees her as well and does splendidly. The staff is great, friendly, and extremely helpful. Good luck!
Wake Forest may be a bit out of your way, but my husband and I have Met Life also, and we each go to dental practices we love. He goes to Dr. Magno in Wake Forest. My daughters and I go to Dr. Kim Melton, also in WF, and her practice is called Heritage Dental Care. I highly recommend both Dr. Mango and Dr. Melton.
I also have met life and see Dr. Magno, and he is great!!!! He is in wakefield, and he does crowns, but not root canals. With met life (and my plan) my crown will cost about 350 out of pocket. Last year we had a different met life plan and I had to get a crown then too, and it was 975 out of pocket. So, 350 seems like a bargain to me! He will make you pay 1/2 when you get it and 1/2 when you come back for the permanent crown 4 weeks later.
