It's great that someone you age wants to experience new places and cultures. Even if this area doesn't turn out be your cup of tea, you will never know unless you give it a try. Many older people have too many things on their "should have done that" list.

If you'll be a senior in high school wouldn't you be tied to where your dad is living? Or is he also moving to the area?

you will want to live in downtown chapel hill/carrboro or downtown raleigh, most everything else is pretty suburban. Chapel Hill high, Carrboro High or Broughton are the 3 most in-town high schools, that said, you'll never know whether you will click with the student population at those schools, they are all pretty large though, so plenty of choice.
