My family and I are looking to relocate to the Raleigh area sometime next Summer. We finally sold our home on Long Island this spring and have been staying with family to save extra money for our move. We have been down several times to visit and absolutely love Raleigh and Wake Forest. We are currently looking at houses...but I have not been able to find out any base salary info for my husbands line of work.
Basically if there is anyone that can tell me what the base salary could be for a Class A diesel technician/service manager with 14 years of experience??? I have looked at so many job listings in this field, but no one gives you and idea of salary. If anyone has any information on this field in the Raleigh area, I would love to hear from you. Just want to get an idea.
Also does anyone have children or know children that attend any pre-schools in Wake Forest that they would recommend??
I cannot help with the diesel mechanic, but I can help with preschool. First, let me clarify, by preschool do you mean 1/2 day part time? Most people here refer to preschool as the half day part time, often church based programs. Full time care is referred to as day care.........my experience is with preschool, so here goes:
My kids attend (or have attended) wake forest presbyterian preschool, which is great! I have really loved it. My daughter attends a three day three year old class (mwf, 9-12) and it is 175 a month.
The other preschools I know about are:
Hope lutheran (very similar to wake forest presbyterian, has an excellent reputation
St. Catherine's of Siena: Also an excellent reputation, my friends who have kids there love it.
YMCA has a preschool program and it is now run at the facility on camp kanata, it is suppose to be a great program
Wake Forest Baptist: parents don't have that much involvement (don't get to meet each other for activities because of their drop off procedures, that is the only complaint I have heard)
I know that the goddard school has opened, etc.
Thank you...I am looking for 1/2 day preschools...3 days per week..my son will be 4 around the time we move...so I guess he would be in pre-K programs...I have looked at the St. Catherine of Sienna school on-line..and it seems to fit what I am looking for...I will also look into your other suggestions....
Another questions...since I am not sure of the exact time we will be moving...do these schools usually have opening for last minute children??? I have heard that with the big influx of people moving to the area...sometimes it is hard to find openings?
I know that st. catherines, wake forest prebyterian, and hope lutheran all have long waiting lists. The registration period for the following year is in late february, early march. Now, that being said, I moved to wake forest in May (over 2 years ago) and I put my daughter on the waiting list (for a 3 year old room) at all of the ones and she happened to get into wake forest presbyterian the day before school started. So, there is hope getting on a waiting list and usually in the middle of the year, the people on the waiting list may have moved on.
I know at wfpp they have three classes for 4 year olds (one is 3 morning, the other two are 4 mornings) and they have a transitional kindergarten class for 4 and 5 year olds that meets 5 mornings a week.
The best thing is to just call, (maybe in a couple of weeks since school just started) and talk to the directors.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks
Is he looking for a technician job or a service manager job? That is a big difference. A typical automotive dealer has technicians, service advisors and service managers and they all get paid different wages.

sorry, I should have made that a bit clearer. He would prefer a service manager position....he currently is a service manager/shop manager/head technician....too many hats....he wants a slower pace...one title will do.

I will tell you the city jobs pay less than dealership/shop jobs. They might be standard 8-5 hours, though as some other places can open and/or close at different times.
$30-$40K is probably what you'd get at a city-type job. At a dealership, if a mechanic is good, he can easily make a lot more than that.
I know a place that is always interested in potentially hiring good mechanics but they don't need any service advisors/managers right now.
Good mechanics are hard to find. There are just not enough of them out there.
Thank you, all this information is very helpful to us for our relocation...my husband would definitely not pass up any mechanic job if he is interested in the job...though I do believe he does not want to work on garbage trucks anymore, so waste management companies are out...but we will definitely be looking into the dealerships...thank you again!
