I love the HT. I have petitioned one to move by me forever to no avail. I work there as a stocker a few months out of every year and can say that HT is a great place to work and shop. I shop mainly at a Food Lion now due to location and they know you as well, mainly because everyone within a 10 or 15 radius has to shop there or drive further (I live at the edge of the city/county line in Durham). I love the one on HWY 54 in Durham across from the Kroger. It is the older store that HT doesn't close due to is proximity to Kroger, but it really truely does have a small town feel. When I work there I notice that most of the customers there are older and don't want anything to do with the newer HT less than a mile away. I've worked at many across Durham and can say that most of them have good employees that are in there for the career. HT pays WAY more than other grocery stores so they retain more and they do profit sharing bonuses to everyone. I also find that HT has higher regular prices but their e-Vic is unbeatable and their sale prices are good as well. Also triple coupons. Their steaks and seafood is the best of all the grocery stores I have been to and usually every week a steak is half off.

I notice the best employees work first shift. The later in the day you get the more transient worker you get with college and high school kids.

Also HT changes it's prices on Tuesday (Monday midnight) for those that want to know or keep track of their sales or when it goes off.

Actually, I think their sales are effective on Wednesdays - they usually post their upcoming flyer on their website around 8pm Tuesday night . Gives me time to hit them up Tuesday night if something isn't going to be on sale the following week...

Having been a dairy girl for HT years ago - definitely mention the expiring dates; that wouldn't be tolerated by corporate (in my experience!). They are fairly firm about pulling expired products, I'm surprised that would be happening at a newer store (since newer stores, I would think, would be under close scrutiny!).

Have a good weekend!

If you want a case of bad customer experience, horrible layout, and withered vegetables check out the Harris Teeter @ North Ridge. That place has to be the worst place to shop in Raleigh.
