I don't think the issue is deposing of the oil, it's the act of changing it. I agree, it's kinda a PITA to do yourself. I always end up spilling some and getting it all over the garage floor even with a large drip pan. Plus to be out on a cold floor....naah easier to pay $20-$30.

A) They don't have any reasonably decent oil to sell you.
B) They frequently strip oil pan drain bolts, which is a $300-$1000 repair depending on the car. Better yet they won't tell you about it, and instead will just slap a patch job on it. Then you'll never know which oil shop screwed you when you're going down the road with no oil in your car.
Firehouse Auto Repair at NC55 & Carpenter Fire Station will do it for you. $15 if you bring your oil and filter. They do inspections, too.
My first and only experience there was excellent. (1) they saved me several hundred dollars by recommending I not replace a fuel pump that it turns out was just fine, and not charging me for the opinion, and (2) dropping me off at work even though all I paid for was a $15 oil change. I've never really been jilted by a mechanic before but these guys stood out as the best experience I've had. I'll be back.
Which is why he said he wanted to bring his own oil and filter...duh!!
Whoops, skimmed right over that! Hopefully he bought something good.
