Sounds like some lawns need a paint job to get that healthy, environmentally-correct, natural green!

Hilarious! My favorite quote from the first article:

"While the Board is aware of the inconvenience presented by the heat and water restrictions, we believe that having neatly landscaped lawns of grass is of the utmost importance to our community,"

Good Lord!

I also love their requirement that everyone's lawn be of "Healthy grass free of brown patches and weeds"

I can't even get my lawn to look like that under the best of conditions! Let alone during a severe drought!

I guess they would send me packing.

Before somebody gets on the HOA bashing bandwagon ...... thankfully my HOA and Management group is not nearly as draconian as this. We all have dead brown lawns and everyone is fine with it here!

Unfreakin' believable! All I can do is laugh and be thankful that our neighborhood does not have an HOA. Even our last home in VA which was govered by an HOA was not this Nazi...er...strict.

In the first story I noticed that Cary has been under water restrictions since 2000. What sort of restrictions are they talking about?

I live in a neighborhood with an HOA in Durham where we don't have the same water restrictions as elsewhere in the Triangle. A lot of the lawns in the neighborhood - including mine - have brown patches because of the drought, but NONE of us are in trouble for this. I guess our community understands that preserving our water is of higher importance than keeping our lawns looking as perfect as a golf course!

Cary water restrictions are moderate.
We can water with irrigation systems on alternate days, based on even/odd street address.
Hand watering is not restricted, AFAIK.

Default pathetic

If I lived there I would simply sell and move into an apartment if I had to.
Why would anyone want to put up with this. SOMEONE needs to sue the board for forcing a homwowner to break a town or county law. The hoa would lose easily.

Also what if the person has a warm season grass? Seems like these pathetic HOA's would like to die someday holding on to their resale value and their green grass.

this is proof that some people get on a HOA because they really want to be in congress. Power trips without any regard to common sense or the environment. Again, if too many people start selling all together then you will actually see the values go down regardless of how green the grass is. Maybe they have been watching Desperate Houswives too much!

I wonder if HOA's in NC will ever start getting abolished.

It can be done with a proper majority vote of the property owners.

How incredibly pompous of them to use "my" water! Have they even driven by the lake lately? Wow, I am just steaming from that first article! I'll stop there!

I doubt it. IIRC, I believe the US Constitution somewhere guarantees us the right to freely associate.
OTOH, the old Constitution isn't really relevant to our lives in the USA any more.
Might happen.
