Has to be local as its just a short stay. Anything welcome: outdoorsy or culture, just something kinda unique. Not run of the mill. Thanks!

Pullen Park (Carosel) followed by a dog or two at Roast Grill. No ketchup!

Some fun local shops are Stitch and Designbox. A whole thread of shops can be found here: //www.city-data.com/forum/ralei...ail-shops.html

Also check out Escazu Chocolates for one of the only chocolate factories in the US that make their chocolate from beans. Most companies buy the beans already processed.

The Art Park/Greenway at the NC Art Museum would be pretty wonderful today, followed by a pop into the new building for a cup of coffee at the coffee cart in the lobby or dessert at Iris, with maybe a quick walk through the gallery, to see one of the largest Rodin collections anywhere.

I'd tour the UNC campus and Chapel Hill. Raleigh is not very interesting as a sight seeing exercise.

And touring a college campus you have no affiliation with is?

Nonsense. The OP asked about places in Raleigh. There are plenty of cool Raleigh options - no need to trek to Chapel Hill.

In Raleigh, places I take out of towners include (some depend on the weather):

Pullen Park
The Flea Market at the State Fair Grounds (Awesome on nice day)
The JC Raulston Arboretum
Escazu Chocolate
Have a cocktail in the wild turkey lounge of the Angus Barn and eat free cheese / crackers & olives
Drive Through or take a stroll through Oakwood / Moredecai / Five Pionts
Lunch outside at Logan's Trading Company (Plant Nursery Next to Train Tracks Downtown)
Coffee at Cafe Helios or Morning Times Downtown
First Friday Art Walk is next Friday - Take them to either Art Space by Moore Square or the Carter Building & The Pitch on Glenwood Avenue
Walk through the oakwood cemetary
Take a Raleigh Rickshaw up fayetteville street
Take a Triangle Segway Tour
Get Pizza at Lilly's Pizza in Five Points
Catch an Indy Movie & Have a Pint of Local Beer at The Rialto
Grab a Pint at the LoneRider Brewery
Grab a Pint and Food From a Food Truck at Big Boss Brewery
Raleigh Farmer's Market
BBQ at Clyde Coopers or The Pit
Breakfast at The Mecca
Slice of Pie at Pie Bird
Get a Milkshake at Person Street Pharmacy
Jazz Music most Thursday Nights at the Bar in Sullivan's Steakhouse on Glenwood
Check the schedule to see if their is any music upstairs at Marsh Woodwinds (BYOB)
Grab Coffee at Morre Square in Benelux Cafe
Have Pint at Boylan Bridge Brewpub and sit outside to view the Raleigh Skyline.

Lots of fun little hikes around here too if you're interested in that sort of thing. Umstead, Hemlock Bluffs, the trail that goes from the art museum to Meredith College, Lake Crabtree. Many more than that but those are some easy short hikes off the top of my head.

Another fun one is the ice cream shop on NCSU's campus. They make all their own ice cream from dairy cows on campus as well. Another fun ice cream shop is Fresh (http://freshlocalicecream.com/). They make their ice cream using dairy from a local farm outside of Chapel Hill.

If you like music at all, lots of great little music venues around town. The Pour House, Lincoln Theater, Kings, etc. You can check out what shows will be in town by reading the Independent Weekly. They also are a great source for special events going on. Independent Weekly

I read your title and saw you are looking for a gem and it made me think of this. It is "outdoorsy" and "kinda unique".
