Hi. Has anyone delivered at Rex recently using the blue cross blue shield plan offer by WCPSS? I will call the provider but was wondering roughly what kind of bill I will receive.
Thanks.
Rex estimates before insurance costs:
Natural Birth 2 day stay
$7500 for mom
$1800 for baby
cesarean
$15,000 mom
$2,000 baby
I assume other bills to follow for anesthesiologist
I did mention in my original post I was calling the provider. Was wondering from first hand experience of board members. Sometime what you get over the phone is different.
Thanks.
In 2010, with a c-section, I believe (and don't quote me, my memory fails me) I paid about $1800 to the hospital, about $800 to the anesthesiologist, and about $500 to my doctor. I don't work for WCPSS, but a neighboring school system. Insurance is, of course, the same. I have the 80/20 plan. The insurance is not AS good now as it was then, though it won't change between the current fiscal year and 12-13. Hope that helps a little. Definitely expensive having a baby!
Between the OB and hospital (I had a drug-free natural delivery) we paid about $2200 in 2009 using the 70/30 state employees' BCBS health plan. I think the deductibles have increased a bit since that time.
Of course, keep in mind that you'll never know what to expect until you deliver. Ask for an itemized bill before you pay. I had no problems with my son in 2009, but when my daughter was born in 2005 we had issues with double charges.

Yes times ten. We had a big hassle when my wife's OB figured out what we would owe and wanted us to make payments prior to the birth. I didn't have a big problem with it since we were getting service all along, but they assumed that we would owe the entire deductible despite the ultrasounds, blood tests, etc, that were billed separately. In the end, they ended up owing US like $400 and it took a couple months of excuses and a threat of a getting the AG involved to get the money back.
